From reimagining CRUSH to redefining partnership.Avalara first partnered with 82 South in 2021 with the ambitious task of reimagining its flagship North American conference, CRUSH, into a hybrid experience that could reach a global audience without sacrificing impact. In response, we created CRUSH City — a dynamic, virtual environment with industry-themed "shops," customizable attendee journeys, and real-time analytics that made engagement measurable. The success of that initial collaboration set the tone for a long-term relationship, with 82 South becoming a trusted partner in the evolution of Avalara’s major conferences and strategic event experiences.

Event Production Support
Over multiple years and formats — from virtual to in-person — 82 South has led full-scale production for Avalara’s most visible and meaningful events. At CRUSH 2024, we transformed the Fairmont Austin into a fully branded, multi-level experience, complete with immersive zones tied to Avalara’s strategic pillars: ELEVATE, DISCOVER, CONNECT, and PLAY. We delivered everything from scenic mainstage design and integrated motion content to expert showcalling, lighting, and video switching. At FUSE, Avalara’s partner summit, we redefined the experience as an “unconference” — a retreat-like environment designed to shift partners from transactional conversations to purpose-driven collaboration. Every detail, from keynote transitions to one-on-one environments, was designed to feel polished, personalized, and fully on brand.

Talent Sourcing
From securing live performances to high-profile keynote speakers, 82 South helps Avalara bring big ideas to life through talent that moves people. At CRUSH Virtual, we sourced and managed a remote performance by Aloe Blacc, delivering the emotional energy that typically lives only in live events. For CRUSH 2024, we brought in Eugene Amo-Dadzie, the "World’s Fastest Accountant," whose personal story of discipline and speed resonated deeply with Avalara’s audience. Every talent booking is handled with end-to-end support — from selection and creative alignment to technical and backstage management — ensuring the message lands with power and authenticity.

Activations
Interactive experiences are a hallmark of Avalara’s events — and 82 South has helped them raise the bar year after year. For CRUSH City, we developed a virtual theme-park-inspired platform where attendees could engage in content on their own terms, visiting themed spaces based on industry, company type, or role. In-person, we translated that same philosophy into real-world spaces: from the Innovation Product Center and Partner Shops to immersive lounges and hands-on product experiences. These activations aren’t just fun — they’re deeply aligned with Avalara’s goals to educate, connect, and drive measurable next steps with every attendee.
